Winery Recommendations

There are tons of wineries to choose from, so below I have grouped them by tour area. There are maps in the wall basket in the kitchen. I recommend always carrying a map in your car, as cell reception can be touch and go in the back country. I also recommend limiting your wineries to four a day, as well.

Also, follow our three rules of wine tasting:

1) Always start at the winery furthest away

2) Always drink plenty of water

3) Never join a wine club after your third tasting! :)

Downtown

There are five wineries here (Ranchero Cellars, Primitive, Ultima Tulie, Lost Blues and Rhonedonnee Wines) and they are all great. Amy Butler, the owner and winemaker of Ranchero Cellars, is kind of a rockstar of the local wine industry and she is there Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 7pm. Our friend Gary runs Primitive winery so tell him we sent you. He is typically there on Friday and Saturday after 4:30pm

A little further away, on Paso Robles Drive, this winery is worth the drive as it has great wine! Ask for Molly and tell her we sent you.

They are located on 13th Street, between Park and Pine, and specialize in Rhone varietals.

This winery has Spanish varietals and is located on Park between 12th and 13th Street.

If you like a modern look and vibe, this is the place for you. Justin is one of the first wineries to get known outside of Paso Robles with "Isosceles," a Bordeaux blend.

Right down 12th Street, across from Piccolo, this is a great way to start or end you "wine tasting crawl" through town.

Vineyard Drive

In our opinion, they offer some of the best whites in Paso! At the end of Vineyard Drive, this is a great setting to bring a picnic lunch and, after tasting, get a bottle to enjoy the setting.

Known for their Rhone varietals, this is a great stop along Vineyard Drive. There is also a great, old barn next to the tasting room. Tell Drew, the Tasting Room Manager, that we sent you!

What can we say, another great winery known for their Rhones. Play some cornhole here or even bring a Picnic to enjoy with a bottle of wine.

This is a new find of ours that we love. The Ugni Blanc, a rare varietal, is one of the best white wines I have ever had in Paso Robles.

This is an excellent winery. You many need a reservation so we recommend calling ahead.

Adelaide Road

The â€‹facility is a very impressive and if you have the time you can take the facility tour.

They have added a new tasting room, and the only thing better is the service of the staff. The wines are great and is an overall great experience.

One of the best views in town!

Mac is the wine maker and is one of the rock stars of the local wine industry. I remember when he was delivering it out of his trunk in the early 90's in Southern California!

A supplier of great fruit for other wineries, they decided to start making wines and it was a great decision. We belong to their wine club and it was a good join!

Peachy Canyon Road

You will need an appointment. Great facility, view, presentation and, of coarse, wine!

We recommend bringing a picnic for lunch, or they have food on weekends. It is, in our opinion, the best combination of wine, view and people in town! Ask for Jackie and tell her we sent you.

This winery has won a lot of awards recently. Steve Loche owns and runs the winery, so if you see him around tell him we sent you.

Very, very good wine, some of the best in the area. Enjoy!

Highway 46 West

This winery is unbelievable, they restored an old barn and building, and the wines are amazing.

Janis Denner is the owner, tell her we sent you. They make some good Italian blends, which is a nice alternative from the Rhône blends throughout the region.

Get a picture in front of the oak tress that are in a ravine, which take the shape of a heart.

Highway 46

"Not so far" West

Located at the end of Anderson Road, the wines are excellent. Carl the owner/winemaker has done an excellent job with his wines.

It is right next door to Caliza, so an easy walk over. Amazing wines.

This winery is excellent. It is right next door to Booker so hardly any driving. Gary Irvin is the general manager, tell him we sent you, they will take great care of you.

A sixth generation farming family made the jump to wine making with Janelle Dusi, and it turned out to be the right choice!

Tin City

Tin City is only a short drive just south of town. They have several good tasting rooms and wineries in this industrial park.

Located in Tin City, this is a great place to start the day with food..

This is a great place if you are looking for an alternative to wine tasting and enjoy a fresh glass of cider. Negranti Creamery next door is a delicious treat you will definitely want to indulge in!

This winery is a must!  They have Rhône varietals and some of the best Pinots in the area. Amber runs the tasting room and Russel Tyler, the owner and wine maker, looks like Kurt Cobain and is one of the funniest winemakers around.

You will need to schedule an appointment, but they have great wines.

This is a great winery for white wines and is a great tasting experience, however, you will need reservations.

You may need a reservation but the wines are excellent. Hard to miss here.

Highway 46 East (South)

This region will require more driving, as things are more spread apart.

This winery is the "party house" and has a large selection of wines.

Great winery with excellent food. It is a great place to stop for lunch. They have an amazing hamburger that doesn't even need ketchup!

Great wines and great value. The metal sculptures and artwork is unbelievably impressive, as well.

Highway 46 East (North)

Not only does this winery have a great setting and great views, but the folks that run the winery are very nice and the wines are great!

They have great French style wines and the tastings are done in the owner's home with the owner and wine maker. You will need to make an appointment ahead of time.

Great Rhone wines and a wonderful stop on this wine trail.

This is a very trendy place with a young vibe.
